Boardman Oregon Strategic Plan Vision Statement
“Boardman is an inviting, culturally diverse community along the mighty Columbia River. We are steeped in history, and committed to future opportunity”
Business Development Boardman Oregon
Boardman is a major hub for transportation of manufactured goods produced at the Port of Morrow. We are located in the heart of the Northwest, and are connected to the world through Interstate 84, Columbia River barges and the railroad.
We are proud of our beautiful Columbia River beaches and the meandering walking paths that follow the river and historical Columbia Heritage Trail. Boardman has many outdoor activities including fishing, boating and camping, RVing and golf. We have an abundance of wildlife and many points of interest.
Boardman has a strong available job market and an abundance of undeveloped affordable residential property to fulfill the need for more housing. Boardman also has over 97 acres of affordable commercial building sites for development. Our knowledgeable Community Development Department is able and anxious to assist you in your project from inception to completion.
The City has an in-house Building Department and a full-time licensed Building Official on staff. Our services include plan review, permitting, and inspections for building, plumbing, and mechanical permits. We are a satellite office for the State of Oregon’s Electrical Program and offer permitting and inspection services.
Clean water, economical power, easy transportation, advanced communications, modern docks and lots of room to grow, Boardman offers all the benefits of large metro centers without the challenges industry can face in bigger areas.
Boardman boasts of a predominantly strong agricultural economy, with some of the area’s top industries that include food processing plants, utilities, and Tidewater Terminal which is the largest inland river barge terminal in the United States. We are home to the Port of Morrow that has a range of industrial facilities located within its 7,000 acre site. The Port is the thriving center of industrial development and transportation. Located on the Columbia River, it’s the hub for shipping agricultural products to the world. Advanced communications, modern docks and room to grow, the Port of Morrow offers all the benefits of large metro centers without the challenges industry can face in bigger areas.
Agricultural is a significant aspect of Boardman’s environment; stop at the Chamber and pick up a copy of our Recreation and Agri-Business self-guided driving tour. This takes you by 33 different businesses and explains a little bit of what the business does.
In 2010 the City of Boardman and the Boardman Chamber of Commerce created an Economic Development Committee to help promote the area and help you start your business or relocate here. They have developed an incentives program that includes suspension of SDC charges, reduction of commercial water overage rate, free trees to new home buyers and three months of free city service utilities. For more information on this committee or these incentives contact the City of Boardman Oregon or the Boardman Chamber.
