  • Maintenance Technician 1

    ?Assists maintenance and production team members with mechanical activities as authorized by manager.
    Supports all programs and policies that ensure that product is of the highest quality, meets specifications and is
    safe, legal and wholesome.

    • Follows all minimum expectations explained in S28.9 Maintenance Staff Minimum Expectations.
    • Visually inspects and tests equipment.
    • Inspects all lines and work areas for safety and maintenance issues and recommends changes and/or repairs.
    • Checks for leaks in steam, water, grease, hydraulic fluid, etc.
    • Checks conveyors, idlers, springs, bearings, sprockets and chains as needed.
    • During rounds, meets with supervisors within 30 minutes of shift.
    • Performs maintenance and repair on equipment.
    • Greases the equipment on the line and cleans out moisture and air traps.
    • Requisitions spare parts as needed.
    • Checks current inventories first.
    • Follows established procedures for used parts for reordering.
    • Re-order what is used.
    • Put order forms in Maintenance Manager box in shop.
    • During the shift, performs the following duties: 1. All activities listed on the checklist and Preventative Maintenance (PM) activities - see S7.32.19 Line Mechanic Daily Check for Low Risk and for High Care. Posts shift end report on the RZ Maintenance Forum at the end of each shift.
    • If a repair cannot be completed due to time, writes up an action item for the next mechanic and explains it to them before leaving.
    • Provides enough detail that the following shift has no trouble figuring out what to do next.
    • Completes all work orders and PM tasks assigned by the due date and turn in on RZ.
    • Maintains working knowledge, ability, and safe use of knife sharpening equipment and other shop tools.
    • Inspects all tools and equipment prior to use.
    • Sharpens knives and score chamber knives as needed.
    • Cleans, organizes and upkeeps work areas, parts, tools and equipment.
    • Clean up work areas when work is completed, before leaving for the day or starting new project.
    • Pieces of metal picked up, tools put away, shavings on the floor swept up, trash picked up, etc.
    • Follows the S7.49 Hot Work Policy, understanding that welding anywhere outside of the maintenance shop MUST have a hot work permit.
    • Understands that some electrical work must be performed by a certified electrician only.
    • Uses fall protection equipment and ladders safely and performs inspection prior to using.
    • Understands fall protection equipment is required over 48 off the ground.
    • Scissor lifts, man lifts and any climbing applies.
    • Operates forklift, scissor lift, extended reach forklift and front end loader when needed, always performing inspection prior to use.
    • Backs up the Receiving and Transfer Tech departments.
    • Operates transfer truck to move trailers on site as needed or requested, with ability to properly connect and disconnect tractor trailers and park them anywhere on site including backing in to dock spaces.
    • Completes a project request fully signed off for the building or fabrication of any new items - see S20.8 PRAP or S20.8.1 FOIR. Reports any unresolved issues to manager and other related supervisors and maintenance workers. Discusses machine operation variations with other maintenance workers and supervisors/managers to diagnose problem or repair machine.
    • Writes up suggestions for continuous improvement ideas.
    • Inspects line flow for product loss and spill points and makes recommendations to improve recovery and throughput.
    • Completes a Break Down Analysis on RZ for any piece of equipment that holds up or slows down production for more than 25 minutes.
    • Responds to any plant supervisor (green hats) requests within 5 minutes when by phone. On the scene communicating with the supervisor. If a higher priority item is being worked on, advise the supervisor and ask for assistance if urgent.
    • Carries cell phone at all times, being available to the production staff and management.
    • Checks Redzone (RZ) a minimum of every 30 minutes. Monitors needs posted and responds with time that the issue can be addressed. Posts updates frequently on RZ for progress of tasks. Pictures are especially helpful.
    • Contacts Director of Maintenance or Maintenance Manager for priorities or direction when unable to help with a request from production supervisor or manager or if asked to do something not qualified to do.
    • In the case of an Emergency or Crisis, Maintenance Technician 1 assists the overseeing Evacuation Director (higher level Maintenance Technician) who acts as the head of the emergency action and is prepared to take action and lead, whether it is a drill or live event.     • Maintains vigilance to potential workplace security issues and reports relevant information to other supervisors, managers and maintenance workers.
    • Locks restricted doors upon departure.
    • Takes responsibility for the security of plant and grounds.
    • As rounds completed, must report and investigate any suspicious activity. Contacts Director or VP of Operations promptly with any issue.
    • Performs first aid actions when needed and ensures supervisor/manager is aware of injury.
    • Reports any incidents and near miss incidents that occur which result in or could have resulted in associate physical injury/illness or property/equipment/product damage.
    • Assists in the investigation of incidents and issues to determine root causes, corrective actions and prevention ideas.
    • Works respectfully with other team members at all times, ensuring they feel comfortable reporting issues at any point.
    • Works responsibly and proficiently with very little supervision.
    • Updates and turns in a Personal Development Plan annually.
    • Personally calls Director of Maintenance if going to be absent or late for work. Texts if call is not answered or leaves a voicemail.
    • Requests all personal leaves and vacation requests on Paycom, with approval granted only by supervisor.
    • Does not make or receive personal phone calls while on the clock.
    • Ensures company work rules and safety guidelines are followed by self and other team members, including always using appropriate personal protective equipment and ALWAYS follow proper lockout procedures.
    • Use and carry individual green bucket when working on the production floor, following correct GMP procedures as outlined in S7.6 Maintenance GMP Policy Reports any and all safety violations and concerns.
    • Required to observe and report in Redzone and stop the safety violation immediately.
    • Acts as a Safety Leader.
    • Other related duties may be assigned by the supervisor.
    • Every assignment included in this job description is preferred, but not necessary.
