The Umatilla County Housing Authority, established in 1949, operates as a standalone agency under Oregon state legislation. Governed by a board of five commissioners, one of whom must be a tenant, the agency administers federal programs for USDA Rural Development, HUD, Low-Income Housing Tax Credits, and Farmworker Housing tax credits. With various housing projects and Section 8 vouchers, it oversees a total of 693 households across Umatilla, Gilliam, Morrow, and Wheeler counties. Committed to maintaining affordable housing standards, the Housing Authority has contributed $18.65 million to the local economy since 2001. Their mission is to ensure the availability of affordable housing for current and future populations in the region.
